LYQD
LYQD is building Ireland’s first digital exchange for whiskey casks: a secure, transparent marketplace where distilleries and collectors and investors can buy, sell or manage whole Irish whiskey casks online.
The business is grounded in the deeply-rooted tradition of Irish whiskey -its heritage, craft, ageing in barrels - but pairs that with the power and precision of modern software - assisting, rather than replacing.
As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), I lead the development of the software and the exchange infrastructure that make that vision real. My work spans both the physical and the digital: the real world of casks in bonded warehouses and the virtual world of user interfaces and trading flows.
In practical terms I have been responsible for:
- Architecting and building the online exchange platform through which whole casks are listed, verified, traded and tracked.
- Designing the onboarding systems (KYC/AML), escrow/payment flows and asset-verification pipelines that bridge the distillery or warehouse to the user’s portfolio.
- Integrating real-world warehousing, documentation and physical asset verification with digital services so the cask in the warehouse and the code itself speak to each other.
- Ensuring the platform’s infrastructure is secure, scalable, maintainable, and uses best practices for cloud-native services, data governance and system resilience.
- Collaborating with engineering and business teams to make the user journey from "discover cask -> buy/hold -> sell" intuitive, trustworthy and linked with the heritage of whiskey.
Because whiskey casks are physical assets but also increasingly investable, tradable and digital in their representation - the work sits at the intersection of two worlds. My aim is to respect the craft and legacy of the asset, while enabling it via digital systems to be accessible, transparent and efficient.
