A tool for being social in remote teams

I have pretty regular catch-ups with my remote team, both as a group and one-on-one. Apart from keeping everyone up-to-date, part of the reason is to be social - we are a team and not simply a group of people who work in silos on a project with limited overlap and only speak when it's 100% related to a technical or business issue.

Asking people simple questions about how they are, the weather (a time honoured Irish tradition) or what's the big news in their part of the world helps keep us connected. We may work together, but we're humans first.

So, inspired by this and a Tweet (that I can't seem to find right now) where someone suggested getting a daily email with the weather and news for each of their remote team members would be a great product idea, I built a tool to do exactly that in a weekend.

It will send you a daily email with:

  • the weather forecast and temperature
  • the top 5 news headlines from local news sources (where available)

for any cities your team works in.

The tech stack, if you're interested, includes:

  • Zapier for the scripts themselves
  • Several Weather and News APIs
  • Domain Hosted on Carrd.co
  • Payments (coming soon) on Stripe.

It's called Remote Good Morning as it's what I look at before I speak to my team. I get an email every morning with all the details I need - and if you visit the site, you can see a sample of what that email looks like.

For now, if you're interested in knowing more or , please get in touch or visit the site directly!
